"Just Slow Down"

Drive Safely
Drive Safely

I chose this topic because I remember watching football with my family when the commercial was on and we saw this really life-changing commercial about safe-driving from the Winnipeg Police Service. I was really affected by the video. When I first saw it, I went straight to the computer, searched for the video below and shared it on my facebook account and I told my brother whose currently taking driving classes, to drive safely at a moderate speed limit even if he's in a hurry and even though he is well experienced. Thinking of our safety is so much better that costing his life or another's.

The video below is by the Winnipeg Police Service to remind the people of the possible causes of road violations just like over-speeding. I'm sure that it'll have a great impact on you and will make you very concerned about driving pre-cautions.

In this video, the woman was put in-jail for running into a girl because of speeding, proved by herself, admitting that she did not stop at the "STOP" sign she passed by and by not slowing down for the fact that there is a "SCHOOL ZONE" sign meaning that she should decrease her speed rate for the safety of the students/children crossing the street.

The techniques of persuasion that were used in this ad are: Fun( a portion), Friends, Family, and Nature.
  • I think Family was used in this video because there was a dad and a little girl who was crossing the street when the accident happened. But before it happened, I saw how excited the little girl was upon seeing her dad across the street.
  • I think Fun was used in this video because as I've said, I saw the look on the little girl's face because of her excitement upon seeing her dad across the street wanting to hug him for the fact that she raised her arms up then ran. But there's only a wee-bit of that.
  • I think Friends was used in this video because the little boy and the little girl were together and treated each other like friends but they are actually siblings.
  • I think Nature was used in this video because of the setting where the accident occurred, where the woman's car was parked and the school where the children were dismissed at and basing that there were crowds of children around them because obviously, it's a school.
I think that the reason why they used these techniques -- Family, Friends, and Nature, is to show that each and everyone of us matters and even from my own experiences, I lost my pet and I was so sad. How much more of a family? For Friends, they were together no matter what. He waited for her sister, they treated each other like friends. And lastly, the Nature. I think they used it to make us realize that no matter where we are, or whenever it may be, accidents could happen and it's better to think of our own safety and the others around you because you can't possibly know or predict what would happen in your future.

But I also noticed the mistake that the girl did. She didn't look if there was even a car coming, anyways, I can't blame her, she's still young and have lots to learn yet.

Techniques of Persuasion

Persuasion is the act of convincing people to do or engage themselves into something beneficial and nevertheless entertaining. In other words, persuasion is the way of promoting products for the people or the audience to see and get interested in at, then leads them to consuming that product and if so, the promoters were really successful onto what they did, and it is of course, persuading people to buy their product.

The commonly used techniques of persuasion are:

Humour: Amusing videos or images that shows comical events or whimsical events that are very entertaining yet clever enough to take the joys out of peoples faces and make them burst out of tears, out of laughter.

Macho: Very manly, strong, and epic/heroic people -- usually men who's commonly in a state wherein they are in tough and dangerous situations.

Friends: A circle of chums that usually bonds doing their hobbies and that they are happy and having fun together.

Family: A basic unit of our society. A group of people who has resemblance and shows affection for each other , Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister or sometimes even our closest friends.

Fun: Everyone is happy out of amusement and it is a result of humorous actions or whimsical stimuli that often raises peoples' spirits.

Nature: Often showing the great outdoors and our green environment and nowadays they are usually promoting the ways of conserving it because of the global/ environmental changes.

Sexy: Excitingly appealing images commonly portraying the physical appearance of  the models' bodies--clothings.

Cartoon: Animated characters performing fictional actions usually demonstrating comedic and hilarious stuffs.

Nowadays, only a few people around the globe knows what herbs are and what their benefits are and I'm one of those. It isn't that surprising because as a Filipino, we're often using them as a substitute for medicine for hundreds and hundreds of years. This is most commonly used in remote areas where hospitals or markets are far and even if they do reach these places,  they're too expensive. But there are also some public health centres where they cure and give medicines for free.

For those people who doesn't know or needs further information about herbs, here's more information and and ways that tells us how herbs could help us.

According to the website Wikipedia and Healing Feats, herbs have a variety of uses including culinary, medicinal, and in some cases spiritual usage. General usage differs between culinary herbs and medicinal herbs. In medicinal or spiritual use any of the parts of the plant might be considered "herbs", including leaves, roots, flowers, seeds, resin, root bark, inner bark (cambium), berries and sometimes the pericarp or other portions of the plant. Culinary use of the term "herb" typically distinguishes between herbs, from the leafy green parts of a plant (either fresh or dried), and spices, from other parts of the plant (usually dried), including seeds, berries, bark, root and fruit.

In my opinion, herbs are a type of plant that are valued most for their medicinal properties, flavour, scent. Herbs are also the highest quality of  food known to man containing vitamins, minerals and trace elements in natural balance and harmony. It is our sincere belief that our Creator put herbs upon the earth to maintain and restore our health and for further reasons.

Herbs helps us in various ways:

  • It's the best substitute for medicines: About a month ago, I and my family went to a family friend's house. There we celebrated a small family reunion and sort of get along with my cousins whom I didn't know that they were. Coincidently, my little brother, has a mild cough and cold and now, my aunt (she's kind of old) comes and brings us to their backyard and showed us her garden and it was full of plants like tomatoes, and oregano. She grabbed a plastic bag and picked some of those green, hairy leaves, which is the oregano and I was actually surprised by that because I didn't know that they would grow here too. Oreganos are usually boiled in water until its juice or extract, comes out and its really the water that you'll drink and it's really not that bad either, it's kind of minty.
  • Food: Now, this is a common thing. Usually, when we are eating pasta delicacies, there's always a portion of a leafy plant or something, which is the basil. Plants of these kinds are adding spices to foods, giving it a stronger and excellent taste making the consumers, want more.
  • Adds beauty to our surroundings: Whenever I'm strolling through the streets, I'm always looking at the houses' front lawn or windows where there are plants. It's amazing how they make me smile by just looking at them. I don't know, I'm just so amazed of their simple beauty and structure. I'm sort of concerned about plants and herbs. These are called "Ornamental Plants".
  • Environment Friendly: Herbs are absolutely harmless, both to us and the creatures living around them. Animals are also a part of our eco-systems and they are taking-part with everything that involves plants -- herbs. They live there, they eat them, they make them grow.Herbs don't need animal testing which is a kind of animal cruelty. Herbs don't need processing too, it doesn't have harmful and toxic chemicals in it but just pure nutrients and minerals coming from the earth.
  • Buisiness: A lot of people out there are smart enough to think of businesses that's totally beneficial. Selling these may not be a big source of income but it still helps you through a budget crisis and it doesn't need that much effort especially if it's coming from your own backyard. It just needs effort and patience in planting it. But more than worth-it when harvested.
  • Protection: Herbs are also useful in means of pest-control. Just like "citronella", it keeps mosquitoes away for a certain distance. We tried it once, and it actually works.

In conclusion to that, I think that herbs are really useful in terms of medicinal properties. You'll be cured with no side-effects, full with no hunger left, your environment will look so nice, it's jaw-dropping without even worrying about the expenses for the fact that you'll earn more.

A giant mountain, three times taller than Earth's highest peak, graces the southern polar region of Vesta, an asteroid that's the target of a close-up study by NASA's Dawn science probe.Dawn went into orbit around Vesta, a large asteroid in the Main Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter.

Launched in September 2007, Dawn successfully established orbit at Vesta the morning of July 17, 2011. It will spend the next ten months studying the large protoplanet before moving off toward the even larger asteroid Ceres. Dawn will become the first spacecraft ever to orbit two separate worlds in our solar system.

The mountain is about 3 times bigger than our own Mount Everest and over 2 times bigger as Mauna Kea, a volcano in Hawaii just like Olympus Mons, a mountain found on Mars. I find it really amazing thatour fellow people, astronomers, or people working for NASA or some other agencies/organizations are working on extra-terrestrial stuffs or some unknown things found on space or the universe and beyond it. Who knows? Maybe in the near future it'll happen. It'll really take some time for us to learn more about what's outside the Earth and beyond. but I'm really thankful that we now have powerful resources that could possibly let us learn and know how or world exists, or what's out there waiting for us to discover it. being an astronomer or an astronaut and for instance, is really a great opportunity to discover new things that revolve around us, but I guess that there are really a lot of great risks too, considering their lives.

So, why not try to check some of these space and astronomy stuffs out? I'm absolutely sure that it will be a very good experience, it's very educational and fun considering you, are going to discover more things about what's out there as you go on through with it. Just like Buzz Light Year said, " To infinity and beyond! ."

BLOGS THAT I FIND INTERESTING...

Hey there people! As you know, I was strolling through a couple of websites and I've read some blogs. And luckily I found some of them, interesting and educational, and it became like sort of past-time for about two days now. So now, I’m going to share it with you, the blog people and hope that you'll enjoy it too like I did.

I got these from a website that our teacher gave us. There are around 100 websites there, sorted out depending on what that website focuses on. I chose some from the categories in which I'm most interested in.

I started on Discovery Channel's website. When I was on the site, I kept on scrolling down the page when a topic or blog caught my eye. It was about a mountain found on an asteroid from a really great distance from Earth. The mountain is about 3 times bigger than our own Mount Everest just like Olympus Mons, a mountain found on Mars. I find it really amazing that our fellow people, astronomers, or people working for NASA or some other agencies/organizations are working on extra-terrestrial stuffs or some unknown things found on space or the universe and beyond it.

The second one that I found is from the website called NPR. I don’t know what that abbreviation means so I’ll just continue and get to the best part. Okay, so our scientists are working on a really interesting invention. It’s not like any of their inventions before because it’s extremely high-tech. As I’ve said, it’s not like any other inventions and it’s because it could help people out there that thinks that they’ve lost it all, like no chance at all. So I’m talking about a mind-controlled mechanical/virtual arm and they’re working very hard on it so that they could try or test it on so that they could see if it needs changes or improvements. They’re testing it on monkeys/apes because they’re the closest or almost the same as us, human beings. Our actions, lifestyles (well, not really I guess.) or mind are almost like theirs, they’re as smart as us. I posted this not because of the monkeys. I posted this because of the people it could help, paralyzed people, people with no or exactly 0 % chance of moving. This could really help them, it would help them be normal like us, they’ll be able to do stuff that they weren’t able to do, they’ll be able to pursue their dreams and achieve more and enjoy life like we do. I want to see many people’s smiles around. I’m really hoping for this one to be introduced to us, some time in the near future.

And lastly, a website that’s all about words, of course a dictionary. Here you’ll have the word of the day in which you’ll learn a lot from. Everyday, a new word, which means that your knowledge is increasing. But wait, if you think that this website has only words and words and only words, no, you’re wrong...there are also some games here that teaches you or helps you through something important like your vocabulary. Some games are like: FIND OUT WHAT THAT WORD MEANS! :) ; GIVE THAT WORD(you’ll have to give the right word for that definition) ; SPELLING BEE ; GUESS THAT WORD ; and THE CROSSWORD PUZZLES. So there are really a lot of ways for you to learn. Like this, you’re learning and at the same time, having fun!

So these are some of the things that I find interesting. Hope you liked it! :D

Types of Websites

Hi there! These past few days, I've encountered some links or websites and was told to identify them accordingly, because there are three kinds of websites.

The first one that I would like you to know about are the websites that give you informations about certain things. Here are 2 examples of websites that give informations to the people on the internet.

Here are 2 websites that will keep you interested in what's in and what's not:
http://www.engadget.com/
http://weblog.greenpeace.org/

I think that these websites were made to inform people because it gives us the latest or maybe the coolest informations about what's happening around us or the whole world. But when I went to one of those websites, I was really shocked about Steve Jobs' death, it was all over the website, I can never imagine Apple without him, he's really smart. Without him, there wouldn't be any of these iPhones, iPods, iPads, Mac, etc. I've heard of him retiring, but never thought that it would end this way, it's too soon.

The next one I want to show you are the website that were made to entertain people.

I have 2 websites here that would sure entertain you when you're bored:

These websites are made to entertain because they are about celebrities or show-business and movies, which are commonly found on media, specifically...the television and the internet. I would not be surprised about The Huffington Post's front page post about Steve Jobs' death, I believe that it is all over the internet, he contributed to a lot of things that would make life easier. The other website is about movies and all, even the latest and the vintage ones. It talks about the movies, its plot, where it came from, and lastly, about the casts the crews latest information.

Finally, these websites were made to persuade people, to convince them to do something that would benefit or would satisfy them.

Now, for this one, I don't have any website that would persuade people. For some odd reasons, I don't have any. Even though I need to put two here. It's either I get confused or just don't understand what persuade is...and I cant find anything that's unlike the others or under the given websites by my teacher so I'll just explain what these websites are for.

Websites that are made to persuade people are made to convince people to do something satisfying...something that would benefit them. Like websites that would provide their needs, like online buying and in terms of television, home shopping networks. They are selling stuff that would make lives easier, products that helps in the kitchen, some examples are the the baby bullet and the magic bullet, they are used to make smoothies and purée. So they are promoting and testing it or in other words, they are demonstrating how the product is going to be used, in front of a wide audience in order to sell them afterwards.
